Watch the following video on P&O cruises and try to answer the following questions. Pay attention to the question forms at the beginning.
- When was P&O founded?
- How many destinations?
- 5 ships: Oriana, Oceana, Aurora, Artemis and Arcadia. In which one you don’t need to dress up, which one is for fun seekers? which ones are child free? which ones are the most modern?
- How many types of cabins do they offer? any special characteristics?
- What other things can you do on board?
- How many times does the speaker say the word ‘British’? Why do you think they do that? Do you think this could be possible in a Spanish commercial?
Clothes do not make the man…or do they?
I found the following sites where you can practice (practise, BrE) your vocab on clothes.
-
BBC Learning English site: Here you have 2 listening and 3 reading activities on ‘buying shoes’, ‘jeans’, ‘where to shop in London’ and on ‘the pronunciation of the schwa sound’ (that sound you can hear in ‘Sueque…’, remember?)
-
English Language Listening Lab Online (ELLLO): you will hear 6 audio segments and you’ll have to choose the right piece of clothing.
-
And remember, just like M. Twain said: “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society“
Kinky…
Remember that American young lady with a mini-skirt saying “I’m cold, I should have worn pants!” to a friend of hers while sipping a Guinness at an English pub?
Well, so imagine this: 2 men, one from America and the other from the UK, they’re going to a party and the American guy asks his British friend if it’s ok if he wears pants and suspenders…can anyone tell me what the Brit’s answer would be? Any guess?
