Think of more weird hobbies

with 2 comments

Pastime SanFrancisco Graffiti Art

Take a look at the following list of hobbies…Weird, right? Actually, not all of them…but anyway, as you can see there are some “empty” categories: could you share here some hobbies for those ones?

Plus, do you think that hobbies can be stereotyped?

You want an extra-point? Try this:

And now, related to sports, can anyone guess the meaning of ‘resolutionary’ (urban English)?

Funny or politically incorrect guesses are accepted.

Which sport do you do?

leave a comment »

(Back from break and still ill…Nice timing)

Which sport do you do? A very common question in conversations. So when do we use ‘do’, ‘play’ or ‘go’ when we talk about sports? Check it out here.

And more practice here.

If you want to know more on sports, read/watch all these posts here. Some of them are easy, some others aren’t.

And now, tell me: Can you think of a sport which is particular to your country (Spain or other) but not played in many other places? Would you mind sharing it with us here?

Computer/Internet English

This video might be useful because it shows situations in which we use vocabulary related to computers or Internet: log in, sign up, log off, browse, scroll down…Oops, most of them are formed with those creepy Phrasal Verbs…

Watch the following video on P&O cruises and try to answer the following questions. Pay attention to the question forms at the beginning.

  1. When was P&O founded?
  2. How many destinations?
  3. 5 ships: Oriana, Oceana, Aurora, Artemis and Arcadia. In which one you don’t need to dress up, which one is for fun seekers? which ones are child free? which ones are the most modern?
  4. How many types of cabins do they offer? any special characteristics?
  5. What other things can you do on board?
  6. How many times does the speaker say the word ‘British’? Why do you think they do that? Do you think this could be possible in a Spanish commercial?
Is a -British or not-cruise really something for you?

Clothes do not make the man…or do they?

leave a comment »

I found the following sites where you can practice (practise, BrE) your vocab on clothes.

  1. BBC Learning English site: Here you have 2 listening and 3 reading activities on ‘buying shoes’, ‘jeans’, ‘where to shop in London’ and on ‘the pronunciation of the schwa sound’ (that sound you can hear in ‘Sueque…’, remember?)
  2. English Language Listening Lab Online (ELLLO): you will hear 6 audio segments and you’ll have to choose the right piece of clothing.
  3. And remember, just like M. Twain said: Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society

Kinky…

Remember that American young lady with a mini-skirt saying “I’m cold, I should have worn pants!” to a friend of hers while sipping a Guinness at an English pub?

Well, so imagine this: 2 men, one from America and the other from the UK, they’re going to a party and the American guy asks his British friend if it’s ok if he wears pants and suspenders…can anyone tell me what the Brit’s answer would be? Any guess?
